Serene Half Dome
The most recognizable rock formation in Yosemite National Park is Half Dome, a granite dome at the eastern end of Yosemite Valley. Rising more than 4,737 feet above the valley floor, the signature landmark of the park gives the illusion of having a round dome that has lost its northwest half. The original name for Half Dome was "Tis-sa-ack", meaning Cleft Rock in the native language of the local Ahwahnechee people.
